Fire hits basement of mall’s parking area and office building

A fire hit the basement of a parking area in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City Thursday night which was put under control after early Friday.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Victorio Tablay, chief of Mandaluyong City's fire investigation section, said there were no casualties. He added that damage to property reached around one million pesos.

A report by the Eastern Police District (EPD) said the fire took place at the basement of a parking area and office building under construction in Barangay Wack-Wack started around 7:12 p.m. The fire was put out around 1:30 am Friday.

Tablay said the fire was triggered by a spark from an electrical wire at the basement.

In a statement, SM Megamall said it opened at 10 a.m as scheduled.  DMS
