Fire hits Customs warehouse in Port Area

About P35 million worth of material was destroyed after a fire hit the Bureau of Customs warehouse in Port Area on Thursday night. Vanessa Villa, Customs public information division officer, said the fire broke out at 9:06 p.m. caused by faulty electrical wiring. She said destroyed were clothes, slippers, bags, and counterfeit products. Fire officer Raymark Antieta of Manila Fire Department said the blaze reached the fifth alarm at 9:37 p.m. and was placed under control at 5:18 p.m after 14 hours. The fire spread rapidly because majority of the materials are clothes and fabrics, Villa said. She said there were no casualties. Alanna Ambi/DMS
