Firearms, IED recovered by AFP in Batangas encounter

Two high-powered firearms were recovered after an encounter between the government troops and alleged New People’s Army (NPA) in Batangas on Friday afternoon.
1Lt Xy-zon Meneses, Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, Public Affairs Chief said the troops were conducting military offensive when they encountered undetermined number of armed men at the vicinity of Brgy Toong, Tuy, Batangas around 1pm.
“While conducting combat operation, the troops of 1st Infantry Battalion and 730th Combat Group all under the control of 2nd Division's 202nd Brigade encountered an undetermined number of armed rebels,” he said.
Meneses said the encounter also resulted in the recovery of one improvised explosive device (IED).
“No casualty from the government troops was recorded while undetermined number on the enemy side,” he noted.
Meneses said the combat operation was being conducted by the government troops in response to the order of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año to hit the enemy hard after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the termination of ceasefire with the communist group. Robina Asido/DMS
