Five temporary treatment and monitoring facilities of the national government are close to being overwhelmed by the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients.
In a televised press briefing, Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire Wednesday said five Mega LIGTAS COVID (Local Isolation and General Treatment Areas for COVID-19 cases) centers have reached the "danger zone" in terms of bed occupancy.
"They are in the danger zone or more than 70 percent occupancy," said Vergeire.
These are the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, the Quezon Institute in Quezon City, the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila, the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, and the ASEAN Convention Center in Pampanga.
The Mega LIGTAS COVID Centers are being managed by the National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19.
Vergeire said Local Isolation and General Treatment Areas for COVID-19 cases (LIGTAS COVID) Centers in five regions are in the "warning zone".
"They are 30 to 70 percent utilization or in the warning zone," said Vergeire.
The five are the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Soccsksargen.
LIGTAS COVID Centers are community-based facilities within a barangay, municipality, city, or province managed by the local government units.
On Tuesday, the DOH reported that, on the overall, COVID-19 dedicated beds in hospitals are in the "warning zone". DMS
