ZAMBOANGA CITY - Six alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members, including four reported ranking officials, surrendered to the military in Compostela province.
Maj. Ezra Balagtey, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said the six surrendered to the Army’s 46th Infantry Battalion on Friday in Mabini, Compostela Valley province.
Balagtey only identified the NPA surrenderees through their aliases for security reasons.
They are Ka Joffrey, a political instructor; Ka Sander, platoon vice commander; Ka Anthony, a squad leader; Ka Arnel, a team leader; and, Ka Abe, also a squad leader.
The other two are Ka Renz; and, Ka Tenie, both squad members of the NPAs Guerilla Front 33.
Balagtey said they surrendered four caliber .45 pistols and four AK-47 assault rifles.
Col. Gilbert Saret, Army’s 1001st Infantry Brigade commander, welcomed the surrender and assured the former rebels of assistance as they return to mainstream.
“We want to assure them that we will assist them as they return to the folds of the law, particularly, in their enrollment with the Enhance Comprehensive Localized Integration Program (E-CLIP),” Saret said. DMS
