Four people, including a Chinese cook, were injured in a gas explosion in Makati City last Thursday.
The Southern Police District (SPD) identified one of the victims as Ceo Yue Qing, 45, a cook at Judianchuanba Restaurant.
Initial investigation disclosed the incident happened around 8:45 pm inside Judianchuanba Restaurant located at Yakal Street, in Barangay San Antonio.
Police Colonel Rogelio Simon, Makati police chief, told reporters the restaurant is only 100 meters away from their station. This was why police immediately responded and brought the victims to the hospital.
“They have a big gas tank outside their restaurant which is being connected by a pipeline… they (Bureau of Fire Prevention) concluded the leak came from the piping system of the tank… and the employees were cooking when the incident transpired,” he said.
The two victims were allegedly employees of the restaurant while two were just passersby since the establishment was closed.
“Only the cook remains at the hospital while the rest were released earlier,” Simon said.
Simon said the restaurant owner may be held responsible after they found out the establishment has no business permit and their fire safety certificate was dated last 2017.
“The owner did not arrive last night, we only talked to the building administration,'' said Simon. Ella Dionisio/DMS
