May 7, 2020

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said four persons under police custody in Sta. Ana, Manila were tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to NCRPO chief Police Major General Debold Sinas on Thursday, three were arrested for illegal drugs and one for violating Republic Act 7610 or Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Sinas said they are all male, aged 19, 26, 37 and 43.

According to their investigation, on April 27 the Quick Response Team (QRT) conducted rapid testing to eight PUPCs and two custodial jail officers at Sta. Ana Police Station.

The four positive patients were immediately brought to Delpan Sports Complex, Tondo to be isolated and monitored by the Manila City Health Office.

The four who tested negative were placed at the isolation area of Sta Ana Police Station.

Sinas assured they will implement necessary precautionary measures for all inmates in Metro Manila detention cells to prevent further spread of the virus.

"We guarantee that the positive patients will be given appropriate assistance, treatment and care for their recovery,” Sinas said.

“For the families of our PUPCs, please remain calm. You may communicate with them and check them through "online dalaw " programs initiated by the different police stations," he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
