Four policemen manning a quarantine control point in Misamis Occidental were injured after they were attacked by alleged members of the New People’s Army on Thursday morning.
Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said cops from Concepcion Municipal Police Station were manning an advance command post in Barangay Putongan around 7:50 am when NPA insurgents belonging to Guerrilla Front "Sendong" opened fire.
The wounded policemen managed to return fire which resulted in the death of one alleged rebel.
Members of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of Misamis Occidental Provincial Police Office and the Philippine Army responded to the encounter site to provide reinforcement and form a blocking force against the enemy.
Meanwhile, investigators are still gathering more evidence to establish the identity of the NPA fighter who died in the incident.
Banac said PNP chief General Archie Gamboa instructed Northern Mindanao regional director Brig Gen. Rolando Anduyan to ensure the four wounded policemen will be given medical care.
The policemen are recovering in two different hospitals in Concepcion and Ozamis City while a hot pursuit operation was conducted to arrest the rebels who managed to escape. Ella Dionisio/DMS
