Gamboa relieves 3 Central Visayas police officers for playing golf on weekdays

Three police officers from Central Visayas were relieved from their post after they violated a “no golf during weekdays” policy, according to the chief of the Philippine National Police on Thursday.

“I have ordered last night the relief of three senior officers in Central Visayas for violating my policy on not playing golf during weekdays, namely, Police Colone Dennis Artil, PRO7 chief controller; Police Lieutenant Colonel Richard Bad-Ang, PRO7 Finance Services chief; and Police Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Mayam, PRO7 Drug Enforcement (DEG) chief,” said Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa in a press briefing.

Gamboa said the police officials were playing golf on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “And if they are bored they played on Wednesday,” he said.

“Problem is the two Lieutenant Colonels are occupying full colonel position for promotion, ” he added.

Gamboa said they are reassigned to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) at the National Headquarters while being investigated for flagrant violation of a specific directive-- an act that constitutes grave misconduct.

“Strike One for the Regional Director, PRO-7,” he said, referring to Brig. Gen Valeriano de Leon.

Gamboa reminded all regional and national support unit sirectors of the existing policy on this prohibition he issued as PNP Officer-in-Charge.

“As I have said just three days ago, now that I am Chief PNP, I am vested with greater authority to implement the program of internal cleansing and organizational reform, even with iron fists if it will be necessary,” Gamboa said.

He said he will not set parameters so all regional directors will be “on their toes”.

“I said it is prohibited on weekdays… so even if they start 5:30 am up to 7:30 or quarter to 8 still (these are) weekdays… that’s why I allowed ( this) after working hours not before because we are expected all to be in our office at 8 o clock,” Gamboa said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
