Gen. Galvez: Terror groups “greatly weakened”
May 15, 2018
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez said on Tuesday that the terrorist groups in the country have “greatly weakened.”
But the general said the military could not be complacent.
“From what we see now they have been weakened, greatly weakened. With the success that we had in Marawi, we see the enemies were very weak," he said, referring to the defeat of the Maute-ISIS terrorists who attacked Marawi City last year.
He also cited that some 2,100 loose firearms in Lanao del Sur have been surrendered by the local officials to the military.
But Galvez said the AFP could not be complacent as the Marawi siege might still happen.
Col. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesman, said the remaining terrorists in the country were still trying to recruit and regroup.
But he said the military would make sure that the remnants would fail in their attempt to recruit members. Robina Asido/DMS
