Gobway is new commander of Joint Task Force Basilan

Col. Domingo Gobway assumed his post as the commander of the 101st Brigade and Joint Task Force Basilan in a change of command ceremony on Thursday.

He replaced Brig. Gen Fernando Reyeg, who will become the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Education and Training, said Major Arvin Encinas, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command spokesman.

Encinas said the ceremony that was presided by 1st Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio was held at the headquarters of the 101st Brigade, Camp Luis R. Biel II, Tabiawan, Isabela City.

"Other guests who graced the ceremony were: the Local Chief Executives of Basilan led by Governor Jim Hataman-Saliman; officers and men of the Western Mindanao Command; stakeholders; partner agencies; and the family and friends of Brig. Gen. Reyeg and Col. Gobway," he said.

Encinas said in his assumption speech, Gobway expressed his gratitude to the AFP leadership for the trust and confidence they gave him.

“As I assume command of this Brigade, expect that we will work as a team and together we will outsmart our enemies and put premium in working hand-in-hand with our stakeholders,” Gobway said.

Encinas said Ponio also "commended Reyeg for the outstanding performance and numerous accomplishments of the 101st Brigade under his leadership and likewise, challenge Col. Gobway to do the best effort."

"On the other hand, Lt. General Cirilito Sobejana, commander, WestMinCom presented the plaque of appreciation to BGen. Reyeg for his outstanding performance as a commander of JTF Basilan," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
