Gov’t forces recover 1,000 pound vintage bomb in Basilan

Government forces recovered a 1,000-pound vintage bomb in Basilan on Saturday.
Col. Domingo Gobway, JTF Basilan Commander, said the bomb was discovered by a backhoe operator in Isabela City.
"A 1,000 pounds vintage bomb was accidentally discovered by a civilian back hoe operator in LegaspI St.," he said. Gobway did not say how old the bomb was.
"Troops of the 16th Special Forces Company and the PNP EOD ( Explosives and Ordnance) Team immediately responded and cordoned the area along Barangay Isabela Proper, Isabela City, Basilan for the safe recovery of the bomb," he added.
Gobway said the EOD teams of the military and the police conducted an assessment of the vintage bomb.
The bomb was brought to the 4th Special Forces Battalion headquarters in Barangay Cabunbata, also in Isabela city while waiting for the approval for proper disposal.
