Gov’t forces recovered high-powered firearms after battling suspected NPAs in Sorosogon

Government forces recovered high-powered firearms after an encounter with alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) in the province of Sorsogon Tuesday morning, police said Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Ma. Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol regional police spokesman, said based on an initial report troops were conducting combat operation when they have encountered around 30 rebels in the vicinity of Brgy. Salvacion, Magallanes town around 11:30 am.
Calubaquib said the firefight that lasted for about 30 minutes resulted in the recovery of two high powered firearms and a casualty on the enemy side.
“No reported casualty on the government side while one unidentified casualty was recorded on the enemy side,” she said.
Calubaquib said the military and police conducted checkpoint operation in all strategic locations and adjacent municipalities following the clash.
“Municipal police stations in adjacent municipalities were directed to monitor coastal areas; and intel operatives were directed to check hospitals and clinics within area of responsibility to verify if there are patients admitted with gunshot wounds,” she said. Robina Asido/DMS
