Government troops recovered firearms, ammunition and cellphones following an encounter in Maguindanao after a five-minute firefight on Tuesday morning.
Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said a platoon from the 40th Infantry Battalion was conducting combat patrol when they encountered an undetermined number of armed lawless group members under Commander Mac4 at 2 am.
"Due to our troops’ vantage position, the militants disengaged from the gunfight bringing along their casualties with them,” he said.
Lt. Col. Rogelio Gabi, commanding officer of the 40th Infantry Battalion, said soldiers recovered high-powered firearms, ammunition, cellphones and radio at the encounter site at the vicinity of Barangay Bulod, General Salipada K. Pendatun.
“We immediately deployed supplemental troops to reinforce the engaged soldiers," he said.
Joint Task Force Central Commander Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy said the military will sustain its operation in Central Mindanao. Robina Asido/DMS
