Grab says driver killed by alleged kidnappers
October 28, 2017
A driver of Grab Philippines, who was hailed last year in social media for not accepting payment from a sick passenger, was killed by suspected carnappers on Thursday.
In a statement on Saturday, Grab Philippines said Gerardo Amolato Maquidato Jr. “was killed by still unidentified suspects, who booked and rode as regular passengers before shooting him and fleeing in his vehicle.”
Grab said Maquidato was killed at around 7:50 p.m. on Thursday while driving a silver Toyota Innova with plate number YV 7109
The company said this is the sixth such incident reported to them this year. "We are working on a tech solution that would decrease, if not completely hamper the chances of carnapping incidents involving Transport Network Vehicle Services," Grab said.
Quoting an initial police report, Grab said someone saw someone being pushed out the car along Bonanza street in Pasay. The suspects then left using the victim's vehicle.
Grab discovered the incident through a post on Facebook by the victim's nephew, Rex Mer Solitario. DMS
