Groundbreaking for Marawi rehab moved to August

July 12, 2018

Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) has assured on Thursday it is doing its best to make sure the right company will get the estimated P 17 billion rehabilitation project for Marawi City's most affected areas.

TFBM chairman Eduardo del Rosasio made this statement after groundbreaking was moved for the third time to August after talks with the Chinese-led Bangon Marawi Consortium failed last month.

“We are doing our best to fast track everything, and yet there are some who would like to criticize. But that is fine because we are in a democratic society and we welcome constructive criticism so that we can do some interventions if ever we are not doing the right thing,” he said.

“Unfortunately we could not meet that indicative time line because we had unsuccessful negotiation with Bagong Marawi Consortium (BMC). And now, we are on the process of negotiating with the next in line, which is the China Power,” he said.

Task Force secretary general Falconi Millar said the group will keep the 75 percent Filipino ownership and 25 percent foreign component for contractors.

"We required them to submit their consortium agreement, which they will do so within the week," Millar said.

Despite the delay in groundbreaking, Del Rosario said the government is still within the timeframe  to complete the project on December, 2021.

“We programmed the rehabilitation in such a way that we will be able to complete not later than December of 2021 – so we are on time,” he said. DMS
