December 14, 2020
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said personal grudge is behind the killing of Pangasinan-based veteran journalist Virgilio Maganes last November 10.
In a press briefing, General Debold Sinas said the motive was revealed after the arrest of the suspected gunman, Noe Ducay, last December 9.
“After the arrest of the suspect, the motive is personal grudge,” Sinas said.
“The suspect was identified by the witnesses and (through) the CCTVs,” he said.
Sinas said a search warrant was implemented in Ducay’s house that resulted in the seizure of the gun which is undergoing ballistic examination.
“We are hoping that it will match then it confirms however the testimony of the witness and the CCTv (footages) confirmed the identity of the suspect,” he said.
A charge of violation of illegal possession of firearms was filed against the suspect. The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Maganes will also be filing a murder case against him on December 15.
Last month, the Ilocos Region Police Office said Maganes was shot dead at Barangay San Blas, Villasis around 6:45 am by two unidentified suspects on a motorcycle.
Maganes was shot six times which resulted in his instantaneous death.
Last 2016, Maganes survived an attack by playing dead after motorcycle-riding gunmen shot him as he rode a tricycle. Ella Dionisio/DMS
