December 9, 2017
The former chief of the defunct Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (AIDG), where some of its personnel were allegedly involved in the kidnap-slay of a South Korean businessman last year, will be at the forefront of Philippine National Police's main anti-drug unit.
Senior Superintendent Albert Ignatius Ferro was designated to head the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) which has around 200 officers and personnel . He will assume his new post on Monday, Dec. 11.
Ferro used to helm the AIDG but PNP Director General Ronald dela Rosa dissolved it last January following involvement of some officers in the kidnap-slay of South Korean Jee Ick Joo in late 2016.
Chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, PNP spokesman, confirmed Ferro's new assignment.
The PNP is preparing to rejoin the government's war on illegal drugs as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte. DMS
