High crime volume in Naga City could be linked with illegal drugs: PNP
August 22, 2018
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Naga City is one of the cities with a high crime volume which means illegal drugs could be involved.
PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde said Naga ranks fifth in cities with high crime volume outside of Metro Manila.
Vice President Leni Robredo is from Naga City.
The other four are Santiago City in Isabela, Angeles in Pampanga. Olongapo and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
"We all know that those that are perpetrating these crimes against properties are really those also engaged in drug trade, illegal drugs,”Abayalde said in a press conference on Wednesday.
“Like what we have said, these drugs and crimes are interrelated,” added Albayalde.
But in an interview over CNN Philippines early Wednesday, he said although Naga is facing drug problems, it could not be considered as a hotbed of narcotics.
He clarified during the press conference he is not disputing President Rodrigo Duterte's statement.
“I never disagreed with President Duterte in his pronouncement regarding the drug and crime situation in Naga City,” said Albayalde.
When asked if it is fair to call Naga a hotbed of shabu, he said it is up to the President if he considers the city that way. DMS
