Honesty depends on politician’s situation: Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said honesty will “depend” on what is the politician’s situation.

Asked after his speech in Taguig, Duterte said there are things that should be left unsaid and things which to be answered correctly.

“Depends. If you are hanging by the thread... There are things left unsaid and there are things which you answer correctly,” he answered.

It can be recalled that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte started the issue on whether politicians should be honest during election period.

This led to a word war between her and Vice President Leni Robredo.

Mayor Duterte said honesty should not be an election issue after opposition bets accused her candidates of dishonesty and corruption.

Robredo said honesty should be a given when running for a public position.

The mayor attacked Robredo by calling her a “fake vice president”.
