Hontiveros criticizes Sandiganbayan dismissal of civil case vs Marcos, cronies

October 28, 2019

Senator Risa Hontiveros criticized the recent dismissal by the Sandiganbayan of P267 million civil case against the Marcos family and cronies.

In an ambush interview on Monday, Hontiveros said the decision of Sandiganbayan to junk Civil Case No.0007 on the alleged ill-gotten wealth accumulated by the the Marcoses, as well as other consecutively dismissed civil cases are questionable

Hontiveros feared that the decisions might become one of the historical revisionism of the Marcos family.

"Clearly, there's something wrong going on. (The decisions were made) despite the historically established atrocities of the family to the Filipinos on the issue of plunder, the historic work done by PCGG (Presidential Commission on Good Government), and the triumph of human rights claimants against the estate of the Marcoses," said Hontiveros citing the decision made by a court in Hawaii 24 years ago.

"It is worrisome if this will become a part of historical revisionism project of the family. This serves, I think, as a wake up call to all of us to remain vigilant and be pertinacious on the accountability for their previously committed crimes against the nation," she added.

The senator added that there is a need to look into the PCGG due to the legal setback involving cases against the Marcoses. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
