House justice panel approves bill abolishing PCGG, OGCC

The House committee on justice approved Wednesday a substitute measure that seeks to abolish the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC). .
The still unnumbered bill that transfers the functions of PCGG and OGCC to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) will consolidate House Bill Nos. 350, 547, 3275, 4748, 5216, and 5233.
The committee, chaired by Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, approved the consolidated bill that was sponsored by Leyte Rep. Vicente Veloso, who chairs the House subcommittee on judicial reforms under the Umali panel.
Veloso said the measure will create a special task force of at least five divisions to continue the PCGG functions.
The PCGG was created by President Corazon Aquino in 1986 to go after alleged hidden wealth of reported associates of former President Ferdinand Marcos. DMS
