House justice panel dismiss consolidated impeachment complaint vs De Castro, 6 other SC justices
September 11, 2018
The House committee on justice Tuesday voted 23-1 to dismiss the consolidated impeachment complaint against seven justices of the Supreme Court (SC) for being insufficient in substance.
The panel, chaired by Oriental Mindoro Rep. Salvador Leachon junked the consolidated impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro, Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr. and Alexander Gesmundo after majority of its members said the consolidated impeachment complaint did not meet the requirement of sufficiency in substance.
The Leachon panel will meet on September 18 to approve the report and endorse this for plenary approval. DMS
