House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez joined the Philippine Marines reserve force at a ceremony in Taguig City on Thursday.
Lt. Maria Rowena Dalmacio, Philippine Marine public information officer, said pinning of ranks held at the Philippine Marine headquarters was led by the Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps, Major. Gen. Emmanuel Salamat.
Dalmacio said Alvarez joined the Philippine Navy reservist on November 18, 1999 “then he opted to join the Marines hence became a marine reservist with a rank of lieutenant colonel.”
“We are lucky because he volunteered to join us (in the Marines). We hope he'll (help) us in our modernization program,” she said.
In his speech, Alvarez assured continuous support for the modernization program of the Philippine Marines.
“If there is a sensitive or difficult mission we deploy Philippine Marines. Like in Marawi for instance, it is the Philippine Marines that were deployed there,” he said.
“That is why for me it is just right to support them in all aspect of military service, from the equipment up to other things,” Alvarez noted.
“Rest assured that that I will continue to help the Philippine Marines Corps.,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
