HPG to go after motorcycle riders who violate ECQ rules

April 15, 2020

The Joint Task Force (JTF) COVID Shield on Wednesday warned motorcycle riders who violate home quarantine and social distancing that the Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) will run after them.

Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, JTF COVID Shield commander, said they decided on this stance  after a video of a motorcycle rider with a passenger that sped off  despite being flagged down by a Metro Manila traffic enforcer became viral.

This operation is called “Oplan Habol”.

“Aside from mobile checkpoints, our HPG personnel will also implement Oplan Habol. Under this, HPG riders will look for areas where there are a lot of private vehicles and check if the vehicle has more than one occupant,” Eleazar said.

“These HPG riders will serve as a standby force. They will immediately proceed to the area where there are a lot of private vehicles and they will also run after private vehicles which are avoiding  mobile checkpoints,” he adde “We need to do this. We must be very strict against these violators because they are not just disrespecting the government, the medical workers and other frontliners who continue to sacrifice to protect the people but also they are risking their life and their families,” he said.
