Hundreds of families evacuated due to ”Ofel”: NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday said hundreds of families evacuated due to Tropical Depression ''Ofel'', which was located 275 kilometers west of Tanauan, Batangas.

State weather forecasters said tropical cyclone warning signal number one, which had been hoisted Wednesday, were lowered.

NDRRMC spokesman Mark Timbal said in Bicol a total of 127 families were evacuated from 10 barangays located in landslide and flood prone areas of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon.

Timbal said the Office of Civil Defense in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) said 158 families or 665 individuals were pre-emptively evacuated and stayed in nine evacuation centers in Oriental Mindoro.

"These were from the Oriental Mindoro municipalities of Puerto Galera, Bulalacao, Calapan and Baco," he said.

Timbal said according to Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council a total of 134 families or 263 persons are being served in 13 evacuation centers  in Lucena City,  Quezon; Bauan, Batangas and Los Banos, Laguna.

He said minor landslides were monitored in Nangka- Torrijos and Bocboc and Pili, Mogpog, Marinduque but there were no evacuation.

As of 12 pm Thursday, the Philippine Coast Guard said maritime operations are "back to normal".

According to the PCG Command Center, "there are no reports of stranded stakeholders, rolling cargoes, vessels, or motorbancas in all ports nationwide." Robina Asido/DMS
