IATF endorses to Congress Metro Manila mayors’ request to continue pilot study of motorcycle taxis
October 7, 2020
Metro Manila mayors have been pushing for the continuous pilot study of the motorcycle taxis, Malacanang said on Tuesday.
In a televised press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has endorsed to the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation the request of local chief executives in the National Capital Region for the Department of Transportation to continue with the pilot study of the motorcycle taxis.
This, amid the absence of a law yet that would allow this mode of public transportation.
"The IATF endorses to the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation the request of the local chief executives of the National Capital Region for the Department of Transportation to continue the pilot study of motorcycle taxis, pending enactment of the appropriate legislation authorizing the same," IATF Resolution No. 77, dated October 5, read.
Pilot tests for motorcycle taxis lapsed last March. The government previously banned back-riding and motorcycle taxi operations due to coronavirus pandemic.
The IATF has relaxed the measure on back-riding provided that both riders would wear face masks and full-face helmets and they are living in the same address.
Riders not living in the same house must have barrier and the rider must be an authorized person outside residence. Celerina Monte/DMS
