September 9, 2020

The Department of Social Welfare and Development advised on Wednesday low-income households in Iligan City and Lanao del Sur to avail of the agency's other assistance programs since they are not part of the second tranche of the Social Amelioration Program.

DSWD Undersecretary Rene Glen Paje made the statement after Iligan and Lanao del Sur have been placed under modified enhanced community quarantine until September 30 due to rising cases of coronavirus disease.

"While we want to help Iligan City in Lanao del Norte, it is not covered by the second tranche. That's why those who are really in need can avail the DSWD's other programs such as Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, which can assist those who need medical assistance and burial assistance, educational assistance and other needs. Social pension is also included for the indigent senior citizens," he said.

He also said that the DSWD Field Office X and DSWD Field Office XII are ready to assist also and to give resource augmentation based on the request of the local government units in those places.

On the other hand, poor families and vulnerable sectors in Bacolod City, which is also placed under MECQ, are beneficiaries of the second tranche of SAP, the DSWD official said.

"Bacolod is really included in the payout for the second tranche of SAP because it's provided in Executive Order No. 112 dated May 1, 2020," Paje said.

As of September 6, he said the DSWD has paid 13.7 million beneficiaries amounting to over P82 billion for the second tranche of SAP.

He said more than 400,000 beneficiaries have yet to receive the cash assistance ranging from P5,000 to P8,000. Celerina Monte/DMS
