Inmate killed after wounding two policewomen in Mandaluyong

Two policewomen were wounded as an inmate shot it out to escape from a detention facility of the Mandaluyong City Police Station on Thursday afternoon.
But Emerson Bernaldez,who was detained for attempted homicide and alarm and scandal, was shot dead as he fired back at pursuing policemen, the Eastern Police District said.
According to the Eastern Police District (EPD), Bernaldez was allowed to go to the toilet when he suddenly grabbed the service firearm of Police Corporal Michelle de Jesus and shot her in the arm.
Corporal Shane Managtag responded, resulting in an exchange of fire between her and Bernaldez. But Managtag was shot in her abdomen, allowing Bernaldez to flee.
After the two injured cops were brought to the hospital, policemen from the detention facility pursued Bernaldez. They also had a firearm confrontation which resulted in the death of Bernaldez. Ella Dionisio/DMS
