Jinggoy denies violating quarantine protocols in bangus distribution in San Juan City

Former Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada on Wednesday insisted he did not violate quarantine protocols, including social distancing, when he gave bangus or milkfish to residents in a barangay in San Juan City early this month.
Estrada, who went to the NBI main office in Manila to submit his explanation on the bureau’s invitation for him to give his side, said he never intended to violate the law when he distributed relief goods to residents on Barangay Salapan last May 3.
Estrada claimed his staff told residents to observe the quarantine protocols. He added he wore personal protective equipment including a face shield.
“I distributed the milkfish there with mask and quarantine pass. I was even wearing my PPE suit and face shield during the distribution. Social distancing was also properly observed,” the former senator said in a one-page letter to NBI Deputy Director for Investigative Services Vicente De Guzman.
“I do not think that helping the poor residents is a violation of law. If giving help to the poor, as what I did is wrong, I do not know what right is,” Estrada added.
He said the bangus that he gave the residents were part of those given to his family from Zambales.
Estrada was arrested by San Juan police who said they received reports he violated quarantine protocols while distributing milkfish. He was released on the same day. DMS
