A Korean national died while doing a water activity in a resort in Oriental Mindoro last Saturday.
Superintendent Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson of the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) Regional Police Office, said the incident transpired at around 10 am in Aura Dive Resort at Barangay Sabang, Puerto Galera.
Victim Bong Hwan Ryu, 54, was diving with other Korean guest at Canyon Dive Site when the dive master, Teody Malabana, noticed he was unresponsive underwater.
Malabanan said Bong was able to signal thumbs up before the incident happened.
“They noticed that the victim was unresponsive which led them to help him,” Tolentino said.
They immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation while being rushed to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the doctor of Puerto Galera Hospital, the victim did not suffer any injury and the probable cause of his death was heart attack. Autopsy would be conducted on the Korean.
The victim's body now lies at Last Trip Funeral Services and the Korean Embassy in Manila was already informed of the incident. Ella Dionisio/DMS
