Labor group changing pay hike for minimum wage earners
October 21, 2018
The Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) is seeking higher pay increase for minimum wage earners in Metro Manila as inflation continues to rise.
In a statement Sunday, ALU-TUCP spokesman Alan Tanjusay said their group will amend their wage hike petition before the Regional Tripartite Productivity and Wages Board-National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) by asking for an additional of P334.
“The amendment to the wage hike petition will be from P320 filed in June 2018 to P334 this October for workers in Metro Manila,” he added.
Tanjusay said the P320 wage hike petition filed last June was when first quarter inflation averaged 5.2 percent. Inflation reached 6.2 percent as of September.
Since then, the labor leader said the third quarter inflation rate has risen to 6.2 percent.
Metro Manila workers are receiving a P512 daily minimum wage. The last wage hike in Metro Manila took effect back in October 5, 2017. DMS
