Lanao del Sur town councilor shot dead

A municipal councilor in Lanao del Sur was shot dead, while three others were wounded in an attack Saturday afternoon.

Balabagan Municipal Police identified the slain official as Nassif Palawan Bansil, 31, municipal councilor of Kapatagan, while three others were hurt, including Alvin Abdullah Sampiano, 35, former barangay captain of Poblacion, Balabagan.

Initial investigation disclosed around 1:55 p.m. while the victims were inside the compound of the resident of former Mayor Hadji Amer Sampiano for a visit, five unidentified persons on board a blue Toyota Tamaraw FX arrived and fired at them.

The unidentified attackers immediately fled after the incident.

Police are considering personal grudges or politics as possible motive of the incident.

The police have already launched a pursuit operation against the perpetrators. Ella Dionisio/DMS
