Lanao mayor, two survive in Cagayan de Oro ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A Lanao del Sur town mayor and his driver survived while the mayor’s wife died after being shot by a motorcycle-riding gunman in Cagayan de Oro City, police reported Wednesday.
Maj. Aldren Baculo, chief of the Police Station 7 in Cagayan de Oro City, disclosed the incident happened around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at Zone 2, Barangy Iponan in that city.
Baculo identified the fatality as Rohaifa Guro, 26, who expired while being treated at the hospital.
Baculo said wounded were Mayor Somerado Guro, 60, of Lumbaca-Unayan, Lanao del Sur; and, his driver, Ibrahim Gani, 58.
He said the mayor’s son, Abdul Rafi Guro, 19, who was with the group, was unscathed.
He said investigation showed that the mayor and his companions were leaving the compound of his residence in Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City when repeatedly shot by one of two men riding in tandem in a motorcycle.
He said the motorcycle-riding suspects opened fire while the mayor’s vehicle was leaving his residence on the way to Lumbaca-Unayan, Lanao del Sur.
He said the suspects fled. Investigators are looking into the incident. DMS
