Liver spread brand has no FDA certificate of product registration
September 17, 2020
A popular sandwich filling is one of the products which do not have a certificate of product registration from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In a statement Thursday, the FDA urged the manufacturer of Reno Brand Liver Spread secure the certificate of product registration before it can be sold to the market.
FDA Director General Eric Domingo said a license-to-operate for Reno Foods, Inc. is not enough.
"This year, FDA inspectors collected samples of Reno Brand Liver Spread for verification of their CPR (certificate of product registration). Upon extensive search of FDA databases, the mentioned liver spread failed to secure a CPR," said Domingo.
"Upon inspection of the FDA, the company was granted approval of the LTO as manufacturer. However, FDA inspectors instructed the company to secure CPR for their products, including Reno Brand Liver Spread," he added.
"Reno Brand Liver Spread is not registered, as of this date, as a processed food product, and must secure the required authorization from this Office," said Domingo.
Earlier, the FDA issued Advisory No. 2020-1618, which advised the public not to purchase and consume unregistered food products.
All establishments were warned not to distribute, advertise, or sell the unregistered food products until the necessary CPRs are issued.
Law enforcement agencies and local governments are asked to make sure the products are not sold or made available. DMS
