Lorenzana hopes daily COVID-19 cases will decline before MECQ ends
August 12, 2020
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana remained hopeful cases of coronavirus disease ( COVID-19) will be lower despite a record spike in daily cases on Monday.
''My statement ( on Monday) has a caveat. if trends continue that the new cases decrease because my interview with Karen ( Davila at ANC Headstart) was 3000 before from 6000 the previous days'' said Lorenzana, chairman of the National Action Plan against COVID-19, Wednesday.
''That was the trend I was referring to. But the following day, the (COVID-19) cases jumped back to 6,000'' he said. ''Maybe I made a mistake in my prediction.''
But Lorenzana said that there are still '' five days to go before the end of MECQ. I may be proven right yet.''
The Department of Health reported a new record daily high of 6,958 on Monday, putting total cases at 131, 638. On Tuesday, daily cases were 2,987.
President Rodrigo Duterte re-imposed modified enhanced community quarantine from August 4-18 as medical societies urged him to do so. DMS
