August 22, 2017

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said police who were involved in the death of a 17 year-old student in Caloocan City must be made accountable if allegation of foul play are proven.

“Whether or not he was involved in the use or trafficking of illegal drugs, he did not deserve to die in the manner that he did,” Lorenzana said in a statement issued Monday,.

“If the allegations of foul play are proven then the perpetrators must be brought to justice. They must be made to account for what they have done,” he added.

Lorenzana also expressed sympathy to the family and relatives of Kian Lloyd de los Santos who was killed in an anti-illegal drug operation of the PNP in Caloocan City last week.

“I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Kian de los Santos,” he said.

Caloocan City police claimed that Delos Santos engaged the police  in a gun battle during the raid in the area while the family believes Kian is a victim of extra judicial killing.

“We must allow the investigation into this incident to take its full and proper course,” said Lorenzana.

“Let us be calm and allow the investigation to run properly and to finish the investigation for us to know the truth,” he said.

“Let us not be reckless on judging base on speculation, we would able to help more if we will just wait for the result of the investigation,” he added.

“President Duterte already give his word and he assures that anyone who violates the law in relation to the death of Kian will be held accountable,” Lorenzana noted. Robina Asido/DMS
