May 10, 2020
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday said the low pressure area (LPA) that it has been monitoring off Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression.
In its latest bulletin, Pagasa said the LPA intensified into tropical depression around 2pm and was named “Ambo”.
Ambo, which was located at 545 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, was the first weather disturbance to be recorded for this year.
It has maximum sustained winds of 45km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 55 km/h. It was moving west northwest at 15 km/h.
It will bring scattered light to moderate with isolated heavy rains during thunderstorms over Caraga, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Maguindanao.
“Residents in these areas are advised to continue monitoring for updates, especially the local rainfall or thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings of PAGASA Regional Services Division (PRSD),” it said
The weather bureau said Ambo is forecast to be located at 460km east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte by Monday afternoon and in the vicinity of Quirino, Ilocos Sur by Friday afternoon.
Pagasa said raising Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) in any locality of the country remains less likely in the next 48 hours. Ella Dionisio/DMS
