LPA may become tropical depression Wednesday or Thursday
September 14, 2020
A low pressure area (LPA) spotted at the eastern side of the Visayas may develop into a tropical depression by Wednesday or Thursday, the state weather bureau said on Monday.
As of 10 am, the LPA was located at 320 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration ( Pagasa) said: ''It is forecast to traverse the Visayas-Southern Luzon area as LPA and develop into tropical depression once it moves over the West Philippine Sea."
Pagasa advised the Public and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) to monitor the weather disturbance.
"Today, light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas. Scattered rains will be experienced over Marinduque, Romblon, Quezon, Mindanao, and the rest of Visayas," it stated.
"Flooding and rain-induced landslide may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards," it said. Robina Asido/DMS
