LTFRB ready for Thursday’s jeepney strike

September 20, 2017

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board are "ready"  for a two-day transport strike of jeepney group PISTON ( Pinagkaisahang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide) against the jeepney modernization program of the government,  LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada said.

"The JQRT (Joint Quick Response Team) was activated, we are ready",  Lizada said in a message on Viber on Wednesday.

The group will proceed to Luneta  tomorrow where a protest will be held by anti-government rallyists, she said in a Viber message.

Lizada said 300 government workers are on standby to attend to concerns on transportation, security and medical from the transport strike.

She said seven staging areas for both private buses with minimal fare and free ride public vehicles will be positioned to help commuters.

"MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) will dispatch vehicles based on CCTV and reports from the ground", Lizada said.

The Highway Patrol Group will monitor areas where harassments and threats will be reported. There will be MMDA and LTFRB enforcers to monitor on the ground, she said.

Lizada said police officers and MMDA will be present at the MMDA monitoring office to respond to phone reports. The Manila local government unit will be at the monitoring office in case their assistance will be needed.

"The PNP representatives will contact the district concerned to act with dispatch", she said.

Lizada said the JQRT will meet at 4:00 am to 5:00 am Thursday at the MMDA Metrobase to prepare for the transport strike. Alanna Ambi/DMS
