Major General Benjamin Madrigal, commander of the Army’s Fourth Infantry Division Commander, was appointed as new chief of the Southern Luzon Command, sources said Thursday.
Sources added Madrigal will replace Lt. Gen. Ferdinand Quidilla, who is reaching the mandatory retirement age before the end of August.
Madrigal is set to assume his new position in a change of command ceremony at Southern Luzon Command headquarters at Camp Guillermo Nakar in Quezon Province Friday.
Sources noted President Rodrigo Duterte had signed the appointment order of Madrigal last week.
Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, will become the Army’s 4th Infantry Division Commander.
Madrigal vowed to intensify the campaign of the Southern Luzon Command against the New People’s Army.
“What I want (to do) here is to increase stakeholder’s involvement,” he said. Robina Asido/DMS
