Magnitude 5.5 quake shakes parts of Luzon

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake jolted parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, Thursday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The earthquake, which occurred at 10:27pm 12 kilometers northeast of San Marcelino, Zambales, was tectonic in origin and has a depth of 78 kilometers. "No tsunami alert," said Science and Technology Undersecretary and Phivolcs head Renato Solidum in a text message. (Celerina Monte/DMS)
