October 6, 2017
To reduce traffic during Christmas season, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and mall owners and operators have agreed to start mall operations from 11am until 11pm, effective October 15, 2017- January 15, 2018.
Deliveries to malls shall be only from 11 pm to 5 m the next day, except for perishable goods, the MMDA said in a statement Friday.
These twin moves, which were decided in a consultative meeting at the MMDA main office, along with an earlier agreement between the MMDA and mall owners and operators agreed to hold mall sales during weekends starting October 15 are expected to reduce traffic during the holiday season.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said these measures would help reduce traffic congestion, especially during payday Friday.
Lim also appealed to the public to start their holiday shopping early.
“Let’s enjoy the coming holidays and at the same time, a little patience. We need everyone's cooperation, mall owners, operators and the public. Let's plan our trips during the holidays, ” Lim stressed.
Present during the meeting were representatives from Ayala Malls, SM Supermalls, Robinson’s, Starmall, Shangri-La, and Rockwell. DMS
