Manila mayor says curfew for minors to be enforced in cemetery

October 31, 2019

Manila City Mayor Francis “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday said local ordinances such as curfew for minors will be implemented even inside the cemetery.

In an interview with reporters, Domagoso said a cemetery is considered as public place.

“Cemetery is a public place so ordinances are strictly implemented here,” he said.

“It is a place for grievances and not to (held) parties. Let’s be orderly,” he added.

The mayor said they installed CCTVs and enough police forces were deployed to secure the area.

Domagoso said not all police officers will be in their uniform as some intelligence officers will monitor incidents.

He said the reason for implementing curfew is because a lot of people stay in the cemetery even at night.

“Curfew is strictly being implemented here. A lot of people spend the night and for the parents, don’t let your children roam around as we will rescue them you will be punished,” Domagoso said.

He also warned the public that bladed items and liquors are prohibited inside.

“Bringing of bladed item is considered as deadly weapon under the Revised Penal Code. You might face charges,” he said.

“Don’t also bring liquor because it is prohibited in public places,” he added.

The mayor then asked visitors to keep the place clean.

“We placed a lot of garbage cans. Please (throw) your trash there. If you will do that, that will be a big thing for us to normalize the situation on November 3,” he said.

Around 1.8 million visitors are expected to visit the Manila North Cemetery on November 1 and 2 since it falls on a weekend. Ella Dionisio/DMS
