Metro Manila mayors want Comelec to move voter registration to January 2021
September 2, 2020
Metro Manila's 17 mayors are calling on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to defer the registration on voters for the 2022 national and local elections to January 2021.
Voter registration resumed on Sept. 1 after a six-month postponement as the government imposed enhanced community quarantine on the National Capital Region due to the coronavirus disease ( COVID-19).
Paranaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez told dzBB on Wednesday the mayors, during their Zoom meeting on Sunday, were doubtful if health protocols will be followed.
''People will have to appear at the Comelec for biometrics. Distancing may not be followed,'' said Olivarez, chairman of the Metro Manila Council.
Olivarez said the mayors' recommendation was given to the Interagency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases. DMS
