Military gets highest satisfaction rating in COVID-19 response: survey

A survey in Metro Manila shows that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) gets the highest satisfaction rating in COVID-19 response.

According to a recent survey by  RLR Research and Analysis Inc. the AFP  received a 90 percent satisfaction rating and the highest among surveyed government agencies in its COVID-19 response.

According to the AFP, the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region that led the COVID-19 efforts in Metro Manila has provided free meals for over 70,000 individuals through the AFP's Mobile Kitchen that has been touring NCR since April 20.

The AFP helped built and co-managed emergency quarantine facilities, and provided free transportation services to commuters nationwide.

The military have also helped over 2,400 locally stranded individuals through the AFP's Tulong Uwi program to return home.

The Philippine Air Force has airlifted more than 1.2-million pounds of cargo while 441 tons were transported by the Philippine Navy.

AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr emphasized that "the AFP understands the weight that is being carried by every Filipino in these trying times."

"Rest assured that, shoulder to shoulder, we will overcome this pandemic and stand up better and more resilient," he said.

Other agencies included in the survey were the Philippine National Police which got 88 percent, the Inter-agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases with 74 percent, Department of Health with 68 percent, Department of Social Welfare and Development with 59 percent, and the Department of Labor and Employment with 45 percent.

According to the survey, 88 percent of the Metro Manila residents were also satisfied with President Rodrigo Duterte's actions in combating the COVID-19 Pandemic.

According to the survey, 59 percent of the residents is definitely satisfied, 29 percent somewhat satisfied, four percent somewhat dissatisfied, three percent definitely dissatisfied while five percent are not sure.

"In responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, President Duterte enjoys across-the-board high satisfaction ratings (88 percent) despite the challenges the national government is facing in addressing the people’s needs while trying to curb the spread of the contagion," the survey said.

Aside from government agencies the response of local government chiefs in Metro Manila was also measured in the survey.

The survey shows that among the Metro Manila chiefs, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto scored the highest satisfaction rating with 97 percent followed by Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro at 95 percent, Pateros Mayor Ike Ponce at 94 percent, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian both at 92 percent and Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos at 90 percent.

The survey was participated by 1,275 household heads from Metro Manila that was conducted via computer-assisted telephone interview.

The field work for the survey ran from May 14 to June 2, 2020, during the process 20 percent of the interviews were back-checked and 10 percent of interviewers were supervised via three-way calls. Robina Asido/DMS
