The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is ready to provide support to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in arresting Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) leader Idang Susukan, one of the country's most wanted terrorists.
"The AFP has taken cognizance of the report of the sighting in Davao City of Idang Susukan in the company of MNLF Chair Nur Misuari," Major Gen. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesman said.
"When requested, we will provide support to the PRO (Police Regional Office) 11 as it proceeds to serve the warrant for Susukan's arrest," he added.
Based on reports, Susukan was brought by the MNLF to Davao City after he turned himself over to the Misuari on April.
Arevalo said Susukan's act of "giving himself up to Mr. Misuari is not the surrender contemplated under the law and does not make him immune from arrest".
"The AFP is committed to the rule of law and legal processes," he said.
"We are aware of the criminal cases that Susukan faces and the felonies he was charged to have committed," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
