MMDA goes after buses violating nose in, nose out policy

July 18, 2017

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will close two bus companies and inspect seven others on Wednesday for violating the nose in, nose out policy in Quezon City. Bong Garcia,  MMDA supervisor for operations,  said in a press conference on Tuesday MMDA will close the Dimples Star and Roro Bus Line. DLTB, Lucena Lines, Raymond, St. Rafael, Our Lady of Salvacion, Jam Liner, Superlines and Victory Liner will be inspected on Wednesday. MMDA Chief of Staff Jojo Garcia said all terminals without Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and permit from local government units will be closed. "Now what happening is that the small terminals, the bus entered the terminal but for them to go out they will move backwards and this cause a really major traffic. They get three lanes", Garcia said. He said the bus should be able to maneuver in their terminals to avoid causing heavy traffic. MMDA will conduct a clearing operation in the sidewalks in Cubao, Munoz and Balintawak starting on Wednesday, he said. "We will really clear and clean that. Like what we always say on interviews the main cause of traffic is obstruction and corruption. We will start tomorrow, we will clear that thoroughly and turn it over to the local government units, the barangays", Garcia said. He said MMDA and DILG signed a memorandum of agreement last week stating if the cleared areas returned to its past condition, the barangay captain may face suspension. Garcia said MMDA and the Quezon City government will implement a clearing operation in secondary routes. "Here we are going to help the UV Express and other vehicles that have a franchise permit from the LTFRB because right now those routes are not cleared", he said. He said the secondary routes to be cleared are designated routes for the UV Express but the drivers refused to pass through it due to fees collected by the barangay. "With the cooperation of Mayor Bistek (Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista) and his team we will conduct a clearing operation there and the vehicles will pass the route assigned by the LTFRB. They don't have to pay anyone for that"  said Garcia. He said the local government of Quezon City gave full support to MMDA chair Danilo Lim to have a coordination during road accidents. "Their responders , ambulances in case there is an accident in Quezon City, the MMDA will help to rescue through fixing the obstruction in Quezon City", he said. (Alanna Ambi/DMS)
