December 6, 2017
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct a one-week dry run of a proposed traffic scheme along EDSA even as it said it deferred action on a proposed odd-even scheme and the two-day number coding scheme. The MMDA, in a statement Wednesday, will conduct a one-week dry run on implementing the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane along Edsa starting on Monday, December 11 at 6 am. MMDA Assistant General Manager for Planning Jojo Garcia said the Metro Manila Council, the policymaking body of the MMDA, approved this on December 5., Under this policy, Garcia said only those vehicles with two or more passengers can pass the HOV Lane, which will be at the leftmost, which is the fifth lane along EDSA, Motorcycle riders can also use the HOV lane aside from the fourth lane, MMDA said. Private car drivers with no companion can still use the motorcycle lane, which is the second lane and third lane from the MRT. Violators will be apprehended via no-contact apprehension policy and will be meted a P500 fine, the MMDA said. The MMC also approved to lower the speed limit from a maximum of 60 kilometer per hour to 50 kph to reduce vehicular accidents. DMS
