More Filipinos expected to buy online this year: report

Online spending of Filipinos are expected to grow 32 percent this year to P121.9 billion this year, according to a consumer research report of Paypal and Ipsos Wednesday.
Based on PayPal Cross-Border Consumer Research 2018 for Philippines, convenience is the key motivating factor for the rise in online spending with 82 percent.
Other reasons were online platforms (52 percent), and expectations of a faster shipping (45 percent).
Cross border, which refers to international trade, spending in the Philippines is also expected to grow by 32 percent in 2018 from an estimated P41.5 billion in 2017.
The Philippines has also emerged third out of Asia Pacific countries surveyed, behind China and India, when it comes to the proportion of cross-border purchases on a smartphone.
Considering the increase in number of smartphone users in the Philippines, PayPal predicts an increase in Philippines’ mobile commerce from an estimated P38.4 billion in 2017 to an estimated P55.7 billion in 2018.
On behalf of PayPal, Ipsos interviewed a representative quota sample of 1006 adults (aged 18+) who use an internet enabled device across the Philippines. Interviews were done online between April 16 and 27. DMS
